Ethiopian National Parties Select 3-Member Negotiation Team For Talks with Government

After Prime Minister Hailemariam promised dialogues after last year’s popular unrest, opposition political parties  and EPRDF have been paving the way for meeting since.

On Wednesday, April 19, 2017, in a 9th round meeting of national level political parties individuals contested to be members of a three-member negotiation team that will represent the opposition parties in the much-publicized negotiation with the Ethiopian government.

The negotiations have been underway with a view to solving the problems related to the unprecedented recent unrest in Ethiopia. Ethiopian BroadCasting Corporation (EBC) has announced the following three candidates as the winners. Assefa Habtewold (chairman of All Ethiopian Unity Party) was chosen as chair of the negotiation team,  Wahsion Tesfaye of Ethiopian Democratic Party  and Alemayehu Deneke of the New Generation Party as deputy chairs.

A Media and Communication committee and an agenda-setting committee were also selected at this meeting. It was stated in Ethiopian Reporter English version recently that 21 opposition political parties will be participating in this nationwide negotiation
